CapCut alternative for auto-clipping long videos
Updated October 2026
CapCut can turn a long video into short clips: its AI clip maker finds highlights, trims them and converts 16:9 to 9:16 with captions. ClipClap does only that one job, and takes a link to a stream, podcast or VOD. CapCut is the better choice when you want to edit; ClipClap is the better choice when you want clips found for you.
Can CapCut turn a long video into shorts?
Yes. CapCut's long-video-to-shorts page says AI "smart analysis" identifies highlights and trims clips automatically, converts 16:9 footage to 9:16, and generates captions. You upload from your device, Google Drive or Dropbox, preview the clips, edit them and export. The page states no maximum video length.
The page says the clips come out without watermarks. We read that on the page and have not tested it on every plan.
Where is CapCut better than ClipClap?
CapCut is a full editor. It has timelines, templates, effects, transitions, stickers, audio tools and a free tier for basic editing. If you want to design a clip by hand, add b-roll or build something from scratch, ClipClap cannot do that. It cuts what is already in the source and has a small browser editor for trims and word fixes.
If you already edit in CapCut, staying in it also saves you learning a second tool.
Where does a dedicated clipper do better for streams?
A 3-hour stream is a search problem before it is an editing problem. ClipClap transcribes the full recording, scores candidate moments, cuts the best and returns finished vertical clips with subtitles, so you review instead of scrubbing. For streams it keeps webcam and gameplay in one vertical frame.
In CapCut you can run the AI clip maker and then edit each result, which is a fine workflow for a single video. Test it on your longest VOD: how many of the picks you would actually post is the number that matters.

What does each cost?
ClipClap plans start at €3.99 ($4.49) a week for 60 minutes or €12 ($13.99) a month for 200 minutes, with €29 ($32.99) and €89 ($99.99) plans for heavier use. CapCut's pricing page showed a free plan and a Pro plan at EUR 23.99 a month or EUR 199.99 a year when we read it, in one regional version.
CapCut prices vary by region and the page says they are for reference. CapCut Pro lists AI credits and premium templates, which are not the same product as a clipper, so the numbers do not compare one to one.
Which one has no watermark?
ClipClap adds no watermark on any plan. CapCut's AI clip maker page says its clips are made without watermarks.
For clips you post as your own content, the practical test is to export one clip from each and look at the result.
When should I use both?
You can use a clipper for the first pass and an editor for polish. Let ClipClap pull candidate clips from a long recording, download the ones worth keeping, and open a few in CapCut when you want custom effects. That uses each tool for what it does best and keeps the editing time on clips that already work.
How should I test the two before paying?
Take your longest recent recording and run it through ClipClap and through CapCut AI clip maker. Count how many of the suggested clips you would post unchanged, how many need a fix, and how long each fix takes. The difference in review time matters more than any feature list when you clip every week.
Also check the exports on your phone, with sound on and the platform interface overlaid. Subtitles that sit too low get hidden by the app buttons, and a crop that looks fine on a desktop preview can cut off a face in the feed.
Try it on your own video
Paid plans start at €3.99 ($4.49) a week, and the first week is €1.99 ($2.29) for new customers. Send a link or a file to the bot and the clips come back in the same chat. Plans and limits are on the pricing page.
